Courses
Our courses are designed to involve participants, develop skills, deliver knowledge and build confidence while reinforcing good practice. They can be tailored to include 'in-house' messages and culture, linking to your organisation's policies and procedures. They are based on a maximum of 14 participants to help ensure better learning outcomes. Some courses (i.e. First Aid) may set a lower maximum number for practical reasons. Small group or one-to-one coaching is also available. Larger groups can be accommodated, by special arrangement.

Volunteering
Volunteer Management
This one-day course explores how to manage and reduce turnover of volunteers which can be time consuming, and costly. The course is primarily designed for those with responsibility for managing or co-ordinating volunteers.
Introduction to Managing Volunteers
This half-day training is a 'cut down' version of our one-day volunteer management course and should be seen as an introduction only, exploring some of the basics. It is primarily designed for those who are new to managing or co-ordinating volunteers.
Volunteer Recruitment
This one-day course identifies the key principles of attracting and recruiting appropriate volunteers. The course covers all types of volunteer recruitment from long-term regular committed volunteering, to one-off events.

This one-day course explores how to retain volunteers and reduce turnover which can be time consuming, and costly. The course is primarily designed for those with responsibility for managing or co-ordinating volunteers.
Volunteering and the Law
The legal aspects of working with volunteers is wide ranging and relatively complex. A lack of relevant knowledge can lead to simple mistakes being made which could have significant consequences for your organisation. This course will help you to review certain aspects of volunteering in order to reduce your potential risks.
Volunteer Befriending
Our Volunteer Befriender Training has been designed for a Home from Hospice Service or Befriending Scheme. The training consists of 4 three-hour sessions, which can be run over 2 days or 4 half-day periods. The training can be adapted to reflect your individual service.
Trustee Training
This one-day course is designed for those thinking about becoming a trustee and for new or existing trustees who could benefit from some formal training around their roles, particularly identifying trustee responsibilities and liabilities.
Charity Retail
Managing Shop Volunteers
This one-day course explores how to manage shop volunteers and associated issues within a trading environment, which can be time consuming, and costly. It is designed to cover key elements of volunteer management (including retention) and is for those who manage, supervise or co-ordinate volunteers.
Recruiting Shop Volunteers
This one-day course identifies the key elements of how to attract and recruit appropriate volunteers, especially mid to long-term regular 'committed' volunteers.
Retail Safeguarding
This one-day course aims to raise awareness of safeguarding issues in a retail environment, highlighting an organisation’s responsibilities and duty of care to staff, volunteers and public, plus possible responses to an incident. It is designed for managers, deputy managers, lead volunteers or anyone with responsibility in or for a retail environment.
Safeguarding for Senior Managers
This one-day course aims to raise awareness of safeguarding issues in a charity retail environment, and an organisation’s responsibilities and duty of care to staff, volunteers and public, in response to an incident. It is aimed specifically at Trustees, Senior Managers, Safeguarding Leads and 'Champions' within an organisation.
Customer Service
This one-day course explores key elements of customer service and its importance to the overall customer experience and to the organisation in respect of its reputation, wider community benefit and long-term survival
Lone Working (Personal Safety)
This half-day course supports participants in developing, maintaining or reviewing lone working (personal safety) procedures and practices in their work environment. This is achieved by highlighting personal and Organisational responsibilities, as detailed under relevant legislation, and by raising their awareness of the issues surrounding lone working including potential risks associated with their individual job role.
Food Hygiene
This half-day course explores practical ways of maintaining good food hygiene and safety for those working in a food environment, or for charities and voluntary organisations who provide food to the public, their clients, staff and volunteers.
Fire Safety
This half-day course looking at fire safety explores what to do in the event of a fire. The course is designed to give more of a general overview linking into your fire safety policy / procedures and is aimed at all staff, particularly new employees / volunteers in the workplace. This is not fire extinguisher training.
Manual Handling (Objects)
This course aims to raise the levels of good practice in manual handling to reduce potential risks of back injuries and accidents. It is designed for staff, volunteers, supervisors and managers working in charity retail.
Safeguarding & Safety
Child Protection - Level 2
This half-day course aims to raise awareness of child protection and the issues surrounding abuse and its effects on children. It is designed for those who need to have a greater understanding of this difficult subject and for staff / trustees / volunteers working in charitable organisations or a care environment.
Child Protection - Level 3
This one-day course aims to raise awareness of child protection and the issues surrounding abuse, along with its effects on children. It is more scenario based, helping participants gain a greater practical understanding and application of this subject, to their work situation. It is designed for staff / trustees and volunteers working in charitable organisations or a care environment.
Adults at Risk - Level 2
This half-day course aims to raise the awareness of abuse and its effects on adults at risk (safeguarding). It is designed for those who need to have a greater understanding of this difficult subject and for staff / volunteers working in charitable organisations or a care environment.
Adults at Risk - Level 3
This one-day course aims to raise the awareness of abuse and its effects on adults at risk (safeguarding). It is designed for those who need to have a greater understanding of this difficult subject and for staff / volunteers working in charitable organisations or a care environment.

Emergency First Aid
This course explores through discussion and practical exercises, emergency first aid for those working in charities, voluntary organisations and care environments.

We run three types of manual handling courses covering moving & handling of objects or moving of objects and people (beginners or refresher). All three courses aim to raise the level of good practice in manual handling to reduce potential risks of back injuries and accidents. They are designed for staff, volunteers, supervisors and managers working in charitable, voluntary, statutory or care organisations.
Personal Development
Assertiveness Introduction (1 Day)
This is a 1 day course (day 1 of our 3 day workshop) and therefore is seen as an introduction to the Assertiveness model only. The course allows participants to identify specific areas in life they would like to change. At the end of the training, participants should not consider themselves as assertive, but they will leave with some tools and techniques to start their journey. Some people find this training difficult as it challenges the areas they find hard to confront.
Assertiveness (3 Day)
This 3 day course is practice based and spread over a number of weeks (allowing participants to identify specific areas in life they would like to change and then trying out assertive tools and techniques to effect that change). Some people find this training difficult as it challenges the areas they find hard to confront where others find it life changing.
Communication (Delivering the Mission)
This course is designed for organisations which are patient/ customer / community focussed, needing to reflect its ethos (mission) in all areas of service delivery, customer service and public engagement. This course is suitable for staff, managers, trustees and volunteers.
